Personal background
I've been into computers for as long as I can remember. Before computers I was into anything that could be taken apart with a screwdriver.

I'm married now and have 1 daughter, and so I don't upgrade my computers as much as I'd like anymore. However I manager to squeeze out a couple of work units now and then...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe life exists elsewhere. However wether it is possible we will find it is another matter. The sheer size of the universe, the possible number of locations life could exists and the fact that any signals may well be lost or drowned out by the time they reach us make it a difficult quest...

However, you have to be in it to win it... if we didn't try at all then we may miss that one signal that does manage to make it through...

I think we should send signals of some form. However anything more than a "Hi there" may be careless. I'm not an overly paranoid person, but I don't think we need to make it too easy for another species to wipe us out. After all, there are plenty of people here on Earth that would have no problems doing likewise, and a lot of those people are the ones with the power and ability to actually do it too...
