Profile: K2ULR

Personal background
My ham radio callsign is K2ULR and I'm from East Brunswick, NJ, about 50 km from NYC. I work in TV broadcasting have been with CBS-TV for over 30 years. Age 60, with 2 sons, Drew and Bill. I've always been interested in science, astronomy and cosmology, so the opportunity to help crunch SETI data is a thrill!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life? Sure. I think the odds favor it. The universe is -so- big and so old, that the chemical compounds that converge to form living organisms must have done elsewhere what they have done here.

We should send beacons. Our UHF TV stations have been sending coherent information for decades now, so we are already calling attention to ourselves.

It's possible that there are dangers in announcing our presence in the universe, assuming some civilization would want to take the effort to travel here and establish dominance. But, the chances are other civilizations would not take such trouble and might be as thrilled to discover a neighbor in the universe as we would be.

I enjoy the prospect of helping comb through the piles of data to look for a possible artificial signal. With enough of us doing the initial search, we just might find that needle in the haystack.
