Personal background
I work in the field of Information Technology. My hobbies include whitewater kayaking, photography, and woodworking, as well as learning all that I am able to learn about all aspects of personal computers. I am presently learning Linux, and find it to be an excellent, secure, and stable replacement for Micro$oft Windows.

I have a home network of seven PCs and run Seti@home on three of those systems, as well as on my work PC. I am fascinated by innovative science. I am a firm believer in the Scientific Method for finding answers to questions of all sorts.

I do not aspire to be remembered in this world for "achievements," but rather as someone who liked to help others whenever possible.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have no doubt that there are other intelligent beings not of our world, but I am not certain we will find them through the methods we use today.

Our science is not mature enough to recognize alternative conditions (whether one calls them alternative planes, or realities, or even universes.)

I believe that space and time are interconnected, and eventually we will stumble upon a rift or a wrinkle that is identifiable as such. Once we have the capacity to do so, and understand it, I have no doubt that discoveries will occur quickly and with great regularity.
The other possibility is that once our race has matured enough to lose our violent and destructive tendencies, other non-terrestrial cultures will make themselves known to us.

Perhaps the searches today will not provide us with answers we recognize, but they are a starting point, until newer technology allows us to search in "unconventional" ways. Furthermore, the noise our planet generates is likely to attract interest, and we are undoubtedly being observed.

I hope that we will find proof of other civilizations during my lifetime, but I believe in my heart that it will be many millenniums before we find the proof that a small minority of earth's population seeks.
