Personal background
I'm a 32 yo SWM and an avid wargamer who loves science fiction and fantasy novels, movies, etc.

I'm also a self confessed computer nerd (I *do* have a life, though! :-))
IMHO, Babylon 5 is by far the best science fiction show I've seen on TV to date. Stargate is good for a bit of light relief, though. If anyone thinks there's a better show, tell me about it, so I can watch it! lol

I'm a big fan of the works of David Eddings, Terry Pratchett and anything at all by Peter David.

I play Diablo ][ in my spare time, and am waiting with baited breath for the release of the new Star Wars movie, "Attack of the Clones", and the first part of "Lord of the Rings".
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe extraterrestrial life exists. Given the purported size of the universe, it would be extremely arrogant to assume earth is the only source of life, intelligent or otherwise. It may not be so arrogant to assume we are the most advanced form of life, perhaps, given we have no concrete evidence (that I know of, anyway) of alien visitors.

However, I'm not so sure we should send out a beacon. Who knows what we might attract! Maybe I've watched a few too many "B" grade sci-fi movies... :-)

I run SETI@home as I like the idea of being part of something bigger - the more people who run the program, the more likely we are to find something.

I'd like to think we'll find something - I would be extremely surprised if it turns out earth is the only planet in the universe to support intelligent (as we know it) life.
