Personal background
I am from Athens, Greece age 35 , male. I work for "the second largest software company in the world" for the last 4 years. Got involved in SETI@HOME after a yahoo search for SETI in general. Liked it immediately.
Star Wars, Star Trek ,X-files and major Sci-fi fan...I should have known better :o)
I run SETI on 3 pc's.
1.NoName PIII-1GHZ,256mbRAM,Win2000. Got the parts and assembled them.
2.Compaq Armada M700 Notebook.PIII-850mhz,256mbRAM,Win2000.
3.Dell Poweredge 2500 Server,2XPIII-350mhz,256mbRAM,WinNTServer4
The Dell and Compaq machines run SETI 24X7 and the pc at home when i am around.
Nuff tech talk. :o)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it?
The main problem IMHO is not if ETI exists. I am conviced it does. The problem is if they will live long enough for us to find them keeping in mind The Drake Equation.
What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?
We will have to wait and see.
Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?
Of course we must . A clear message stating "AVOID THIS PLANET AT ALL COSTS." ;o)
Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?
I run SETI@HOME because i found out the whole project very interesting.
(Not for the units , no,no ,never. I promise)
I think is a shame the American goverment "pulled the funding plug" on SETI. All the X-files scenarios came to mind....:o)
