Personal background
I am married with 5 children and 2 grandchildren.

I am ex-Royal Navy and now work for a housing chartiy as their Senior DBA. I seriously believe in doing ones duty to the society in which we live. We all have to give more to our societies.

I also believe that the internet is the greatest invention since the wheel. Now we are generating virtual societies based upon our likes and disires, wishes and wants, rather than mere physical location.

The membership of SETI@HOME is larger than some contries and is based on a desire to gain knowledge. Each member sacrifices something, time, effort, money or computing resourses to assist this effort.

Perhaps we should write our own national anthem? :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Carl Sagan has said it far better than I ever could. What a waste of space.

I realy believe that most people are looking at the ET problem from the wrong view point. Please remember just how horrible the human race can be. I think that if ET has been here then they are now hiding. But, don't worry, no matter where they hide we'll find 'em.

As for contact, well there are dangers in any venture. This one has greater potential for danger than any other that man has previously undertaken. When we do eventually make contact we must do everything possible to protect the ET from our distructive nature. Otherwise they are definately in big trouble.

I do believe that we should send out a beacon advertising our presence. Everyone should have fair warning.

I run a 9 computer network (my house is wired for CAT5 - sad; very sad) all machines running SETI@HOME. Unfortunately they are all old boxes and quite slow. So I'm slowly moving up the charts.
