Profile: Jack Logue

Personal background
I'm 29 years old, and an editorial assistant at a tax and benefits publisher in Alexandria, Virginia. I've got (nearly) a master's degree in english(concentration in Irish Studies) from Boston College and a BA in English from Grinnell College in Iowa. So that's what I've done; but mostly what I like to do is play Ultimate(it's a team sport with a frisbee if you're scoring at home). I first heard about the SETI project while at BC; the screensaver was installed in all of the machines at the tutoring center where I worked as a writing coach.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't know if extraterrestrial life exists, but I'm absolutely fascinated by the idea that it could. I have to wonder whether humans would even be able to discover it; I can't imagine that carbon-based, oxygen-rich, and water-rich would be limiting factors. The sheer massive size of the universe leads me to believe that even if there are patterns produced by other live(let alone other sentience), we simply may not recognize them as patterns! The converse holds true as well, I think...

I run seti@home because it's the best option I think we've got. I also love the idea of distributed computing, and I really enjoy the ease of access--if you've got a computer, at work or otherwise, you can take part in some really interesting research. Too cool.
