Personal background
Hello!
I am currently working in the telecommunication industry where I design websites and am a lab technician.

I am in my early 20s and have a twin brother called Daniel. He runs Seti too but he goes by the name of Sparrow. I do not think anyone actually knows why he is called that.

My hobbies range from website designing to amateur radio. I have been a radio amateur for quite a few years but oddly, I do not get involved in radio telescopes or microwaves that could well be associated with being into Seti@home. Its expensive and also not that enjoyable compared to a good old chat.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It is arrogant to think we are the only life to exist. It is also incorrect to assume it would be anything like us too. We have a wealth of different and diverse life on our own planet and it seems people forget that the ET out there could be similar to another species.

I do not believe there are any benefits with contacting other lifeforms. They will be so different, their experiences may well not apply to us. Until we are able to get along with the people and races we already have, it would be foolish to include another lifeform into the wars and choas around us. I strongly believe we need to sort out our own problems before we complicate life.

Any lifeform out in space, may well be so advanced that radio waves and lasers are considered primitive and will not be listening for us on that medium. Its also arrogant to assume they will understand our communication methods.

I run Seti@home for two reasons. Firstly, I am not entirely convinced it will actually is a fruitful exercise but it is differently interesting and worth having a go. If we never tried then we will certianly never find anything. Secondly, there is a competitive edge to all of this. Friends and family compete for the quickest time to complete a work unit. With my SUN server I can do such and such and with my new 1.2 Gig Athlon, I can beat my brother's K6-2 450. Its all about competition. I am not sure most people are in it to find aliens but to show off how fast their servers and PCs are. But what does this matter in the end? Work units are still calculated and the end is more important and not the reseaoning behind it.
