Personal background
I was born and raised in Stockton CA, just south of Sacratomato. I'm a college student, working on a degree in Aerospace Engineering (might be changing it soon to astronomy - "That's not going to give you a secure career." I don't care, I've gotta do what I love). My dad is the one who introduced me to astronomy and the like. I have always looked up to my dad, and felt bad that he gave up a job working as a computer engineer for NASA after my birth. Oh well, he found a great job anyway. My room is covered in pics of astronomical phenomena and I never get tired of looking up into the sky, looking, just hoping that some day I will be able to meet someone not governed by our laws or tethered to our way of life. I just can't wait!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I know that extra-terrestrial life exists. Now the real question should be if extra-terrestrial intelligence exists. I really hope so. In one of my engineering classes, we were given a set of Fermi problems to work on, one of which asked what the probability of the existence of an extra-terrestrial civilization is. Basically, I explained that there was no way that anyone would ever be able to prove that there is NO extra-terrestrial civilization - the universe (as I see it) is an infinitely large expanse. There is no way in which we could explore the whole universe, all the while searching for life. Now there is a way to prove that there is life outside of Earth - by finding it. We can prove "yes," but we can't prove "no." What do you think?

Well, I think that if there is going to be any contact, they will be the ones contacting us. We are sending signals out into space for anyone/anything to pick up. If there is conscious life, they will respond back to us directly. I guess that's what we're trying to do though, now isn't it (looking for their radio signals).

I don't pretend to know everything, people just ask me and I tell them what I know.

I run SETI because my computer needs some company while I'm away at class.
