Personal background
I'm currently an undergrad at the Florid Institute of Technology in the Ckmputer Science department. I am very interested in sci-fi/fantasy books, games, materials, whatever. That sort of translates to interests in the 'real world' and this project is one of them. I stand behind their work, and I am constantly amazed at what's been accomplished.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) I really don't know (does anyone truly know?) if extraterrestrial life exists, but that's one reason I support this project. They aim to find out regardless of what criticism may come their way. If there is life out there, we will probably only know it once they want us to know. I see no reason to believe that we would be able to 'accidentally' detect them. The benefits of such a discovery are too many to list here...but the dangers, well, they being hostile is perhaps the largest threat. As a strong christian, I believe nowhere in the bible does it say that God created only humans. At the same time, I can see where a loving God would create this thing of beauty we call our universe merely for us to look at and explore.

2) We should transmit information about ourselves. Our 'address' if you will, our location in relation to other stars. We should send basic anatomy information, and attempt to give a fair assesment of our technological level.

3) For one, I think scanning the sky for extraterrestrial signals is a good thing to chase after, even if we never find what we are looking for. I run it because in whatever little way, I can donate the spare cycles of my CPU to a worthy project.
