Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think extraterrestrial life exists, but quite probably not in a form that we have considered. I would guess that humans probably won't discover it...we are far more likely to be discovered by it. Of course, I may be wrong & SETI@home will be the effort that will lead to a "first contact". (I am not without ego...I would like that!)
The benefits (and dangers) could be enormous but it is certainly worth the risk so...I support the idea of a beacon. The content is not critical. (The medium may very well be the message!)
I run SETI@home mostly because I like being a part of a multicultural, multinational effort to do something positive.
