Profile: William F. Witt Jr.

Personal background
Member of the Baha'i Faith and the Baha' SETI Team.

At 48 years of age, I am discovering the world all over again. Recovering from a second bout with cancer has strengthened me emotionally and spiritually, kindling a desire in me to explore new avenues of life and endeavor.

My hobbies include SETI@Home (naturally), astronomy, radio electronics, computers, paddling and camping.

Currently I am planning and training for a trip to paddle all the tidal coastline of the Chesapeake Bay and most of its rivers over the next two years. People with experience in the area of expedition paddling or extended backpacking/camping experience are welcome to write me at wfwitt@ccisp.net to offer any suggestions or web sites which might serve as sources of information.
I hope to write a book on the trip and have it published.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have believed for many years that we are not alone in the universe and that there are many species both more and less advanced than we are, capable of exploring space and of making themselves known via transmissions of radio and TV waves.

The Baha'i Writings say without reservation that life exists elsewhere in the universe, on many planets and in such diversity that we could not even begin to imagine its variety. SETI@Home is in my opinion a very good way for anyone with a computer to become involved in the search for that life. I support this undertaking and wish the project team continued success in their efforts. There is a real chance that all the number crunching we do will one day pay off.
