I'm 43 and married to a Toronto Police Officer. I'm an Artist, Author and computer game Beta-Tester. I also make graphics for the PC game The Sims and work at a fan-related site called SimFreaks.
My husband and I each have a computer. They're side by side on a long table and we surf the internet together, play computer games together, and both computers are running the seti-at-home client. Maybe our shot at fame will come with the discovery of another race, or some other phenomenon.
We live in a 169-year-old house in a little Village of 483 souls -- BUT I'm sure at least half the population is on the net -- it's our connection with the rest of the world. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

My husband and I believe that extraterrestrial life exists -- we CAN'T be alone in all this magnificence. I'm sure we'll discover it purely by accident in a way we weren't intending to -- sort of like bumping into them on the street only "out there" somewhere. As to the benefits and dangers of such a discovery... I believe honesty is the best policy and people are afraid only of what they don't know or can't understand so keep an open mind.
We run SETI@home to do what we can do to further research. We're not financially able so we analyze tiny pieces of data -- every little bit helps. We have a little program called SetiSpy which tells us a little more about each unit we download and have mini contests between husband and wife as to who has the most triplets, gaussians, spikes and pulses in each unit. So far my high is 10 gaussians and 13 triplets. My husband had one unit with 31 spikes!!
I really think we should tidy up "our own backyard" (planet) before we go and play in someone else's -- besides first impressions are everything -- are you "home(world) proud" -- I'm not.
I'll never be "user of the day" so I have no fears of this picture being shown on the website...famous last words... |
