Profile: Slidahl

Personal background
I'm a 35 year old teacher of Science and Mathematics living in a merry little town called Blyth on the North East coast of the United Kingdom, near Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Other than being a sci-fi fan in my spare time I am a keen follower of my local football team, Blyth Spartans. Also I play Runescape, an online adventure game.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have an absolute belief that we are not alone in this universe - let's face facts here, how can we be? However, I do believe that we are the sole occupants of our solar system and therefore the next nearest lifeforms are likely to be many light years away.

As such, I don't truly think we'll find them during my lifetime unless they are more advanced than us and they come looking - effectively, they find us rather than we find them!

I also don't subscribe to the whole green man or bug-eyes look. Frankly I think alien beings would be essentially very alike to us in most ways though naturally language would be different as would culture and customs.

We should definately be sending a constant beacon into space for others to find. After all, Earth is a tiny rock in a massive void so it could be easily missed by anyone not looking closely. Plus, what's the worst that could happen? These beings land, enslave us all and force us to carry out meaningless and futile tasks for a tiny wage or incentment (hmmm.....sounds rather like our respective governments do already anyway)!
