Personal background
Who is anybody, really? I have been trying to figure this one out for 31 years now. If it is true that we are nothing more than the sum of our expirences, then I am a self-proclaimed computer geek with a deep love of friends, family, finger-foods, fun, facts, fiction, films, firsts, fairness, Fridays, freedoms, frozen pizza, flatulence humor and University of Kentucky Basketball. (And that's primarily using just one letter of the al-F-abet!) Boil it all down and I guess I'm just you're average guy with above average views on Life, the Universe and Everything. What makes my views so "above average", you ask? Well, that question would take a lot more time and space to answer, I'm sure, than the good folks at Seti@Home are willing to provide. (That's my way of saying that I'm full of hot air, and that I have absolutely nothing to back up such an egotistical statement.) However, since you are, in fact, looking at my profile on this useful, well constructed site, I'm willing to bet that we have more than a few things in common, including, but not limited to, some "above average" view on Life, the Universe and Everything.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think that intelligent life exists all over the universe. To quote a line from the movie Contact, "If there isn't, it seems like awefull wast of space." I just find it a little egotistical and hard to believe that this little blue planet is the sole purpose of God's unimaginably vast and amazing creation. Call me a bad Christian, but that's what I believe. When and How will humans discover extraterrestrial life? There's no telling. The universe is so mind-bogglingly huge, we could spend the entire course of human existence looking up and out and still never know if we are alone. I do believe, however, that the discovery of non-terrestrial intelligent life could hold such profound implications for the human race that we should look now and continue to look until the end of our existence. With that said, I also believe that we should transmit a beacon to alert others of our presence; nothing fancy, just the galactic equivelant of standing up, waiving our arms and shouting "HEY! WE'RE HERE!!!" After all, someone out there might be a better listener then we are.
