Personal background
I live in a tiny rural town in Northern California, and work as a bookkeeper in another, slightly larger, town 11 miles down the road. I've been keenly interested in Astronomy since I first took a class in it at U of M. As a brand new freshman, I was looking for an easy science class. I was fascinated from the very first lecture and devoured any astronomy articles I came across in magazines and newspapers. I also became a science fiction fan, and , of course, a Star Trek fan. Then a few years ago, I decided, for career purposes, to start taking some computer courses at the local Jr. College. In the admissions lobby, I spotted an advertisement for an Astronomy class, and signed up. Again, I was just fascinated......and so much knowledge had been gained in the 30 years since my first class. I was hooked again.... Soon afterward, I bought a Nexstar 5" telescope and now I also have "Starry Night Pro" computer program. My only lament is that there's no local astronomy club, or other astronomy addicts to observe with and learn from. But I have dark skies and good viewing, so I can't complain!

My other hobbies are quilting, gardening and football!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Hmmmm....yes, I think extraterrestrial life must exist somewhere and in some form....otherwise (to steal a line from Contact) what an incredible waste of space..........The more you read, the more you realize how HUGE (to the 100 th power)the universe is, so it's inconceivable to me that we would be the only life form. Then there's Drake's equation...it's awfully rough, but it makes too much sense to be wrong! And the extremeophiles that we're finding here on earth living in conditions that we were SURE (just a decade or two ago) could not support life. The more we look, the more we find primitive forms of life thriving in unbelievably hostile environments. There really does seem to be a "life force" of some kind...

Why do I run Seti? To be a small part of a grand vision.....to be a small help to scientists trying to answer some really profound questions...questions that are important to all mankind....and also just to be part of the scientific effort in one of the only ways a layman can participate and help....

I signed up in the first week or so, but on my work computer under Kay9Red@aol.com I have logged over 8000 hours for SETI there....

Happy Hunting you guys!
