Personal background
I am 32 years old and live in the Lehigh Valley (now the third largest metropolitan area in Pennsylvania). I am an electrical engineer by trade, receiving my degree from Lehigh University. After school I spent several years in the U.S. Air Force designing electronics and communication gear for satellites and then building security systems for a well known access control company. Now I work for an aerospace company developing altitude indicators for business jets.
I have been happily married for almost 9 years, and have two wonderful (read that as obnoxious) cats and a beautiful dog. I first met my wife as a kid, as her brother and father were involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. But it wasn't until I met her again after college at a friend's wedding that we fell in love. She followed me across the country and back and we've outlasted most of our friends' relationships (must be doing something right!?)
In my spare time, I have been researching the genealogical history of my family and my family's affect on the local region, with the intention of publishing a book about my family in the next few years.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
First off, let me say that my wife thinks I crazy for participating in SETI. I guess I must be for believing in something that has yet to be proven. I do believe there are other forms of life somewhere out in the vast universe. Given the number of galaxies in the universe, the number of solar systems in each galaxy, the number of planets found in the solar systems, there must be at least one other planet capable of forming life as we know it. The questions are are they as advanced as us (or more advanced!?), how long will it take to find them, will (or have) they found us first and what form of life are they? I won't speculate on the first three, since that is what we are trying to do here with SETI@home. On the fourth question, I belive that out of all the possibilities shown in books and movies in the last century, we will probably see one of two possibilities: (1) they will be just like us, or (2) they will be nothing we have ever thought of before.
I suppose we will just have to wait an see...
