Personal background
Hi! I live in NC in the US north of the Charlotte area so I'm only 4 hours from the beach and 3 hours from the Appalachain mountains. I am raising my two teenage children and caring for two home bound elderly parents, who fixated me on space at an early age by always waking me up in the middle of the night to watch NASA events with Walter Cronkite. It has been impossible for me to escape from those memories. I work PT for a non-profit Arts Experience and spend lots of time reading everything, listening to all kinds of music (except counrty) and NPR, having a glass of wine or two, gardening, and thinking. Oh, and I would travel anywhere and everywhere if I had the bucks! I have spent lots of time outdoors gazing up at the stars while Hiking in the NY Adirondacks and the Pacific Northwest and bicycling across the US, on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and doing the grand tour thing in Europe. And don't forget hot nights on the Carolina beaches. Hale-Bopp was spectacular from Wrightsville in 1997!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I joined the Planetary Society due to the inspiration of Carl Sagan and I think I remember reading about SETI in their mag, but I really don't remember why I started running it on my home PC. Probably my kids were studying the solar system in 2001 and I ran across it. I started running it as a screen saver, and then stopped for a long time. But when my son was in 9th grade last year and taking Honors Earth Science which had a huge astronomy component, our school district decided to drop our upper level astronomy course at our high schools. I went on a letter writing campaign to no avail and we are still without a high school astronomy class, but it motivated me to run SETI all the time.

SETI is a huge inspiration to regular ordinary people looking to participate in astronomical research in some way. Thanks!!

Also, thanks to BOINC for providing a lot of great projects for all of us to crunch.... And I'd love to know who all is BOINCing in North Carolina!!

I have thought for a long time that all of this is just too big for us alone, and my profile pic is pretty much a statement that we have probably felt that way for quite a while. I think we have always known....
