Profile: Andy B,

Personal background
Greetings, Earthlings!
Wow, that was original. Anywho, my name is Andy Bartelsmeyer, I'm an 18 year old from Wildwood, MO, near St. Louis. I attend Lafayette High School, and this fall I will be starting my senior year. Yay, seniors! I'm a little bit of a nerd, as one might say, but I'm also interested in just about everything under the sun. I have both passion and God-given talent in mathematics and science, and anyone sharing my interests is more than welcome to email me to talk about the philosophical implications of the large scale structure of the universe! None of my friends will, they just say I'm confusing. I also have an incredible love for art - vocal music, especially. I have sung for about 10 years now in organized ensembles and music is my life! I love singing, and I hope to be able to do it for the rest of my life. Well, that's me in a nutshell (Help! I'm in a nutshell! Someone get me out of this cursed nutshell!). I hope it was interesting! Ta-ta!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I definitely believe in extraterrestrial life. From a scientific, philosophical, or religious standpoint, I think it almost a certainty that we are not completely unique in the universe. As a scientist, I see that the combinations of matter that led to our creation are statistically certain to happen again elsewhere, probably many times. As a philosopher, I believe it is a foolish idea to say "I am, therefore none else is." Rubbish. As a person of faith, and an amateur religious scholar, I think it a dangerous sign of arrogance to believe that the Creator only made us, and thjat the whole rest of the universe exists for our sake. First, if He created it only for us, why would He create galaxies billions of light-years away that we could never even hope to reach? Secondly, this placement of humanity as the sole reason for the universe is sacriligious in my mind. It puts people in God's place.
