Personal background
Hi! My name is Jakub (pron. yacoob), I have 18 years old and I'm from Poland. I'm studying in a high school and the profile of my class is chemistry. My interests are: parapsychology, out-of-body experiences, lucid dreaming, meditation techniques, philosophy and diving. My religion is tibetan buddhism, but I respect all religions. I am 171 cm tall, have blue eyes, brown hair and I am white. My music is: black/baroque/gothic metal (Therion, Tower, etc), dark ambient, relaxational (Mike Oldfield) and classic (Bach, Pachebel, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin). In future I'll be a doctor or a diving instructor or a scientist (biochemistry, genetics) or a monk in the monastery in Nepal, Bhutan or India. I hesitate :) That's my story. Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm sure, that extraterrestial life exists. The Universe is so huge, so in my opinion it is impossible, that we were alone. The question is how far away is the closest intelligent civilization. If they started to use radio waves long before us and if their radio waves are strong enough, then we have chances to find them. And what then? The signal has been sent many years ago. It is possible, that this civilization no longer exists. It may be extremely difficult to make a real contact because of the distance. Even if we make a contact, will the mankind be responsible enough? What about the governments? They will be inrested in getting new technologies for making weapons. Anyway, potencial benefits are enormous!
I think, that we should transmit beacons for others to find. What information should we send?
- we are peaceful civilization (I know - that's a lie ;-))
- our address - third planet from the Sun, a blue dot, you know :D
- some information about our life form - base structure of DNA and so on
- some basics about our languages, including our mathematics
- polite inviting
All information should be written in cooperation of mathematicians, linguists and psychologists.
I run SETI@home because it is my duty as a human being. My views about the project are optimistic. I believe, that findig the signal is just a matter of time. I only hope it will be before I die... It will be one of the happiest days of my life!
My suggestions: keep seeking and never give up. It is worth the effort!
