Personal background
I'm 20 years old, and a third year Computing Science student at Aberdeen University in Scotland. I like watching a lot of sci-fi programmes on TV.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't know if extraterrestrial life exists, but I would like to find out, and that's why I run Seti@home. I suppose it would kind of rock if there were other races out there that just wanted to learn. Friendly ones where the individuals didn't bother about personal gain, but all worked together to learn how to do really cool stuff.
I don't get how some people can just say that aliens exist, and that they are among us. I've had some conversations with people who are like that, and state stuff like the 'Roswell autopsy' tape, crop circles and other stuff as real proof. Those people in my opinion are idiots.

I don't think a beacon should be sent, because I think there is a fair chance that the only civilisation that would recognise it as a signal instead of background noise, and also be able to understand it, would be us. We're constantly sending out signals anyway, so there's no point in sending another one.
