Personal background
I work at the Rutherford Appleton Lab near Oxford in the UK, as hardware manager and systems administrator for the UK WLCG Tier1 computing facility. The Tier1 provides compute and data storage facilities for the Large Hadron Collider experiments at CERN, as well as other particle physics experiments around the world.

Seti@Home is used to apply load to the Tier1 farm during testing: it keeps the systems warm and busy and provies a load similar to the batch processing system before nodes are added into the farm. We have completed two burn sessions:

March/April 2006: 1.25 million cobblestones
December 06/ Jan 2007 2.25 million cobblestones
