| I'm 55 , an astronomy nut with a 5" ETX-125EC & 8" Newtonian, I like to design electronic circuits in my spare time. I'm presently setting up a remote control system for my ETX, and when that is done I am going to apply it to my 8" scope, too. The ETX is fairly easy to work with, since it has computer controls built-in, but the challange will be to create the same for my 8" Newt., which only has motors without any computer interface. I am trying to set up a "blink" type system using both telescopes with constant computer monitoring to look for rogue objects. Unfortunatly, I live in San Jose, and have to go to the mountains to get any good seeing. I guess that's enough babble for now. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1.) I think ET does exist, but why would an advanced species want to talk to us?
The benefits are solutions to our major problems, i.e., war, disease, pollution, stupidity, etc.
The dangers are finding some species with even less smarts than we have.
2.) Yes, if for no other reason than to let others know we exist so they can aviod us.
We should send the truth - not some idealized BS that portrays us as something more than we are. The human condition is proof that we are not ready for civilized contact, yet.
3.) I like the idea of making at least a small contribution to the future of mankind's greatest adventure - space. |
