| Personal background |
I am 57 years of age and a Hoosier transplant. Having lived in California for 32 years I have closely followed our space explorations. Like many, I often wonder about the origins of the universe. I also wonder if someone out there has already figured it out.
I am now living in beautiful South Carolina and star gazing has never been more fun. Residing on a small farm, I am removed from much of the light polution that I have experienced elsewhere. I am continually amazed at the sights that are viewable even through a small 8" SCT.

| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. I do believe in extraterrestial life. I also believe there is intelligence out there. I believe we will discover signals from outerspace but I doubt if we will make physical contact. Distance is the primary obstical. I would worry about the dangers of direct contact. For them and for us. Remember when the Europeans first visited the new world. Natives were subjected to viruses and bacteria that nearly wipe them out.
2. I do believe we should continue to attempt contact because of the knowledge that could be exchanged. Maybe they have found a cure for everything including poverty and environmental issues.
3. I participate because I believe it is a worthwhile endeavor. |
