Profile: Costan

Personal background
Since I am part of this large and exiting project, most of my profile should be quite easy to figure out. You know, technical oriented, computer fan, science curious, and believing that everything has at least a little probability, but a certain possibility...that type of guy. I am an Aquarius, and this alone may say a lot.

On a more realistic note, I teach design courses at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario, since 2000, after working in aircraft interiors at Boeing in Seattle, WA and deHavilland-Bombardier in Toronto for about 5 years. Previously, I worked as an architect in Romania, where I received my degree in architecture. I live in Toronto and I share my spare time with my family and friends. I like the challenge of new ideas and I enjoy finding solutions.

One of my favourite debates: what is memory. Other topics? ...I can't remember now. But I am sure I like mechanics, robotics, communication technology, and I try to consider aesthetics in everything I do.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Before being an act of scientific curiosity, SETI@home is a society of 3.5 milion people whose resources, interest, and hopes create the largest comunity focused on a such specialized subject. I believe the greatest value of this project, before any other success that can be measured and shared, is not "out there", but "in here", inside the virtual boundaries of another layer of our civilization. This effort, together with others, not so many for what we expect from today's humanity, is what can make a difference for our spiritual life. When I speak with my friends about SETI@home, it is like introducing them to a large community of people I do not know, but for whom I speak about our great work. Even considering the probability of not receiving any sign from the space around us, I am glad for just being part of this project.

I believe our life has three major stages: learning, understanding, and sharing. This project is about learning, and I hope the most difficult part is yet to come.

If those guys up there, living their unknown life on an unknown planet, would know that one in 2000 human beings is looking up and far for their sign, I imagine they would try a bit harder, don't you think so?
