Profile: Richard Huntington

Personal background
My name is Richard Huntington, I'm 43, married, and live in Shipley, England.
My hobbies include electronics, computers, reading, watching DVDs, drinking beer and eating pizzas in no particular order.

My favourite authors of all time are Robert A Heinlein, Larry Niven, Sir Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
To quote the late great Douglas Adams "In an infinite Universe, anything, even the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, is possible".
To quote James T. Kirk, "I always like to think there are ..... possibilties."
To quote Murphy "Perversity of the Universe tends toward a maximum"

Quotes aside, the universe is too vast a place to imagine that our planet is the only one that has given rise to life, intelligent or otherwise.
Whether the SETI project will find it is a separate question.

Why do I run SETI@Home? Mostly out of curiosity. What will the project detect? Will the results warrant a second SETI at a wider bandwidth? Regardless of the results, the technical acheivements of the Project have more than justified its existence. Over 1 million years CPU time in 3 years is a staggering acheivement.

I am proud to be a particpant in the largest distributed computing project on the planet. I am currently running SETI on all 9 of my personal machines, but have had to discontinue at work due to IT department policy. For those of you interested, I have
