Personal background
I'm in my 50's, born in the US but have been living in Australia since 1988. I am a train driver by profession, and it suits this countryside because it's open and desolate. Driving at night I like to search the skies and hope beyond hope that I see something out of the ordinary. So far, no luck, but I keep on looking. That's why I decided to get involved here, to see if I can find anything in this way. G'Day to all my mates if they read this, and G'Day to all my mates I haven't found yet!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I believe it does, but I don't know how it will be discovered (to the satisfaction of everyone). I don't know of any dangers offhand, and don't think there are any. The benefits would include (I think) accellerated travel and maybe some medical advantages we don't know about.

2. Yes, we should transmit a beacon. The information should be minimal, just something to let them find us.

3. I run it because I am as curious as anyone else. I don't have any concrete views, I think it is a worthwhile project if for no other reason than it is trying to ascertain something that we (mostly) believe in but have no proof.
No suggestions yet, just joined.
