Personal background
Hi, my name is Christian and I study Computer Science at the University in Aalborg, Denmark. Most people would think I would spend most time in front of my computer but actually I do a LOT of reading instead. Therefore my computer gets a lot of computation done for the seti@home project.

An exciting project I think. Now that we are contributing I hope we are also going to hear (the truth) about the results from the analysis of the enormous amount of data. The big confirmation "WE ARE NOT ALONE!".

Last year I decided to leave the Microsoft OS and try out Linux and the many Open Source applications. After learning the fundamentals I have started really enjoying Linux and what I like the most is the fact that you almost never need to reboot the computer. That was one of many thing that I hated about the Microsoft OS. Still, some of the applications for Linux are not as stable as those I normally used before. But taken into consideration the speedy development and elimination of bugs I am expecting most applications to be just as competitive as those aging ones for the Microsoft OS.

No more computer-talk for now. I only want to mention that I love studying languages. Living in Denmark you automatically get to know the Scandinavian languages and people. A few years ago I lived and worked in Germany and thereby also learned German. By the way, Germany is a nice country! I just got a problem learning computer science in German. Not much English words are allowed and most words are translated into (in my oppinion) long German sentences. So after living there for a year I returned to my home country to study computer Science in English at a danish university.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, extraterrestrial life does exist! Of course I am saying so without being able to prove it. It is a fact that all we can rely on is our imagination and intuition - at least SO FAR. Hopefully one day there is going to be a definite prove. What that is going to be like we can only guess. My guess would be that we initially will receive a signal as some sort of a greeting and then if we respond with a similiar signal maybe that could lead to a meeting with the green mars men as they are allways shown on TV.

The aliens will most likely not look like us. So that should be no surprise. Next, it is really important that we do not pretend hostile and neither that we pretend weak. In my belief hostility would make them show their technologies that we propably can not imagine the power of. A thing that I do not want to go into is the way that we are going to communicate with the aliens and maybe make a conversation. Again, on TV they speak English - these will not!!!!

All in all, hopefully a friendly meeting will lead to exchange of wisdom. Their wisdom perhaps could help us the human race survive in the long run. For example weapons against threatning meteors. Now, what makes the difference?? The receiving of an alien signal - the greeting - to which we should respond to!!

So I am encouraging everyone to join the SETI@HOME project. Cause it makes a difference to analysis data and use all computers idle time. Idle time is wasted time.
