Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that there is other life out there, however if they are advanced enough to be able to travel through the stars then they wouldn't contact us. I believe that any race of beings capable of interstellar travel would be advanced enough both technologicaly and intellectually that they would understand the problems of comminucations with a race that cannot live harmoniously on the same planet would be detrimental to all in space. We will not travel beyond our own solar system until the problems we have on this planet are solved and we all live as one planet and not as individual countries. The resources to do this are too staggering for one country alone to handle and diplomatic ties between multiple countries are not strong enough to cope with the required level of cooperation needed for such a enormous undertaking. I also feel that they have not solved the problem of radiation exposure outside of the Van Alan Belts and no-one on this planet has been to the moon yet. It will be intersting to see the future manned mission to Mars slowly develop into a reality when something as fundamental as radiation exposure has not been properly dealt with.
