Personal background
I'm a traveller. I was born in Vancouver, B.C., and now I live in Edinburgh, Scotland. In the last few years I've visited Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, the US, Belgium, Holland, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Spain. I love this world.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't pretend to have any idea if extraterrestrial life exists. My mathematical background suggests that it doesn't matter how likely or unlikely it is, there's always still a possibility either way. I like films and television shows where we meet civilizations other than our own, but when our civilizations met throughout the Earth we usually just ended up fighting each other. Still, I want to know.

I think it's wonderful to transmit a bit of ourselves out there. Maybe we'll entertain someone, somewhere. Or maybe just ourselves if we ever figure out how to get ahead of our own beacons. We should send things we're proud of, and that represent the Earth and human beings as a whole. For instance, music of every kind, and literature of every language, and pictures of this fanatastic place.

I run seti@home because it does no evil and may do good. Anyway, I love anything that inspires curiosity and hope.
