Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Of course extraterrestrial life exists! The distances are so vast there may be no actual physical meeting though. The benefits and dangers of contact depend upon who finds whom. I figure we're already putting enough signals out to be found without an official beacon. What information should we send? Music would be my choice; it's so closely allied to mathematics it might make some immediate sense on both an intellectual and an emotional basis. I plan to run SETI@home as much as possible, even in the background if I can: sooner or later a signal will be received; it might as well be sooner - and on my computer!
