I am from western Pennsylvania and work in the technology field. I am an advocate of Open Source and community projects such as SETI@Home (among other distributed computing projects). I am currently putting together a small SETI cluster for crunching work units. They will be Linux-based and console only.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think SETI@home is a great project. There are obviously a great number of advantages and possibilities to this model. I run SETI because I have a fairly fast PC and it is often idle... and every little bit of processing power helps :) I have collected quite a bit of hardware in my line of work, so why not put it to good use before it becomes utterly obsolete?
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
