Personal background
I'm 23, an Electronics Technician (Submarines) for the U.S. Navy, and enjoy reading, working on the internet, and spending time outdoors. Ever since I was a young child, I have had a keen interest in the possibility of life beyond our own planet. Joining the military and working in the satellite communications field has taught me how plausible the SETI program is!

*Note* I am now running 3 PC's (2 desktops, one laptop) with the SETI@Home program, one of which is dedicated to this project alone. Hopefully, this helps the project out.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
While I am not sure if extraterrestrial life exists, I am optimistic. I feel the SETI project(s) are the best chance we've got, considering current technology and methods, for communication. The discovery of live outside our planet would have many benefits AND dangers....but hiding behind a veil of ignorance never solves anything...

I feel that we, as a race of intelligent beings, should be transmitting information on a constant basis, into space. Mathematical formulae, historical notes in various languages, and other such data should be in these transmissions.

I run SETI@home to 'do my part'...If life is 'out there' I would love to be able to say that I was aiding SETI when it happened! With the government funding cuts in the early 90's of such projects, it is only right that free-thinking citizens band together and do whatever they can to help this branch of the scientific community!
