Profile: Gilbert Griffith

Personal background
Born 1951 in Melbourne Australia. Married to Beverly in 1974 on new years eve. Three grown kids, Marc ('77), Michelle ('79) & James ('82). Both boys fly with me, but Michelle is a budding lawyer. Can't win 'em all!
Watching the boy's first high solo flights was a real high-point and scarier than doing it myself.
I first flew at 16 in GA and started HG in 1974. Self taught. Tried gliding and then got Trike and Ultralight licences in 1997-8 but still prefer hang gliding. Especially my Atos rigid wing since 2000.
I love country living in Bright with 2500 population where most people know everyone. It's only a minute's walk to bush tracks where I jog in the evenings away from cars and all pollution.
I like to fix things, anything that needs a screwdriver or spanner so my business covers computers, radios, bikes, chainsaws, mowers, steel supplies and anything that takes my fancy. I listen to music all day and read a lot of SF.
The picture shows my sons and me just prior to a test flight (first solo, first aerotow) in a Moyes Tempest.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I'm skeptical. If they exist we'll more likely get a visit. If they do exist we should change a lot of our stupid attitudes for the better.
2. We already are transmitting a lot of garbage. Let's colonise the moon and asteroids before building a special transmitter.
3. I'd like to be part of it if we find anything. It's probably a waste of time, but it makes a good hobby for many people and doesn't cost me anything, so why not?
