Profile: GD it Cerney!

Personal background
33 years old as of now, been out of the Navy longer than I was in yay! Finally starting to feel like a hooman again.

Wife finally let me build my own really good computer, and I decided I was wasting all that idle time and came back to SETI. Especially with the kooky star with the "possible Dyson aggregate" discovery and all the new planets coming into view. Gotta clear the backlog of seti packets, these things are like 3 years old!

Absence of evidence is still evidence, and in the scientific world, a no result is still a valid result. I dont think a sufficiently advanced alien race would still use slow as light radio waves, but who knows, might get lucky. I think they would use some "Ansible" like communications with entangled particles that would be undetectable but if it werent for SETI I wouldnt also have LHC, Milkyway, or Rosetta, so there is that.

Anyway, I joined up with the Nav to get into the nuclear power industry, and after the Nav, decided F that. Still in the power industry though so im doing my part to keep y'alls computers computin'

Talk atcha'll again in 10 years when I update my profile next. Who knows, maybe computers will be so powerful we'll overtake the back log and process real time SETI blocks.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I love to run SETI and other BOINC stuff because my computer is finally awesome. Over the last 4 computers and 12 years i racked up 2457 work units on SETI alone, after a week of running BOINC on the new computer with GPU compute, i have processed 84,357 units as of writing this! Plus 23k units of Rosetta, and 9k for milkyway!!

Like I said above, I dont think aliens would use slow as light communications, especially if they did have something like a hyper drive or warp drive for travel. So i figure were only going to find pre FTL civilizations like us still wasting spectrum with stuff like the Kardashialiens. At least it would be a galvanizing moment for us to know were not alone, and maybe we'd quit being offended about nothing and get out there!
