Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why run SETI@home ?, well, if there's enough people to give a hand with their already owned computers, maybe will we learn something from the space that we haven't expect first, so many things were discovered by "accident" in the mankind history.
and finally if ever there was nothing special to find, at least with our technological level, eh, as it we can be sure to have done our best and that there was nothing special that have been missed by our fault...
Do someone else using radio waves in this so gigantic universe ? it will be surprising if the answer is affirmative, and so hazardous, and it will be probably so old with those incredible distances and time needed to travel to us, that i doubt it'll be practically useful, and less one to communicate, but at least, we will have the answer to the famous question, are we alone ?, and is it the complex life common in the universe ? simple life forms is probably a relatively common chemical reaction chain, but complex life, is another challenge level in this chaotic and so dangerous universe...
so, to conclude, eh, Why not run it ?
