Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life is definitely out there but as Seth Shostak would point out, it's not biology we are looking for but Technology. Unless we actually try looking for signs of extraterrestrial technology with technology of our own we will never discover them. The discovery would unite mankind in a way never accomplished before and solve a riddle that may be as old as our race. We should be transmitting a beacon for other races to find because as we are now looking for E.T.'s signal, they would surely be looking for ours. Any kind of signal would do. Running SETI @ home is my small contribution to the search for E.T.L. -Why not send the program out in stealth mode invading every computer and crunching data while the user remains completely unaware. Like the intestinal flora we carry around, as long as it didn't get noticed you'd have millions more users instantly....your P.R. sure would take a hit if your program got found out!
