Personal background
I was born in 1962 in Winchester, VA. Since then I have done many things, some worked out well and others -- did not. One thing thing that has been constant is my love of knowledge, particularly in the realm of science and technology. I just built a cluster of Raspberry Pi 3B+ and put them to work for SETI@HOME. Nothing would please me more than to work at Green Bank and put my skills and efforts into that endeavor. I am currently working in the insurance industry writing software to facilitate that. Not bad -- but, also not my druthers.

I first used SETI@HOME on a Windows 98 machine while working at a company specializing in electrical utility data collection. I have been programming since 1984, mostly on x86 machines. My training is as an electronics technician and I have a decent shop now, including a Sherline CNC mill, RPis, Arduinos, Propellers, rockets, solar power, tools for white hat hacking and more. I also have a non-trivial WLAN collecting data and a NodeJs based web server and intrusion detection running on a RPi3B+, along with a few SDRs (NOAA 15, 18 and 19 satellite RX, FlightAware and RTL_433/weewx so far...)

My views about SETI@HOME? I expend a lot of energy trying to be part of the team and -- well, here I am. I have joined AAVSO and am building my astrograph -- 80mm Apochromatic refractor on a Celestron mount and using PHD2 -- trying to get proficient and with the right gear. Thankfully, my day job provides me with sufficient income to put it all together and my experience makes it all 'just work'. I do not believe in magic -- I believe in the process of figuring it all out empirically. Basically, I am putting all that I get from my day job into being a Citizen Scientist.

I have no suggestions -- BOINC seems like an awesome distributed computing paradigm. I would suggest not trying to make this 'fun' in the traditional sense. I see little evidence of that working out well.

Lastly, thank you for providing me the means to contribute. It means the universe to me.
