Personal background
I am a 40-something technology director for a Hollywood-based market research firm by day, and a science enthusiast by night.

I enjoy learning about many things, but the the cosmos holds the highest promise for the most dramatic discoveries (in my opinion). I can't resist keeping up with all the goings on with all aspects of exploration, from particle physics to deep space studies.

Of course I have a life too! I'm married, living in Hollyweird, CA, and enjoy getting away with my wife whenever the day job permits.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Since I see the universe as being infinite is size... or at least whatever contains the universe as being infinite. Than means there is infinite possibility for anything. Throw in the fact that time as we know it has an aspect of infinity to it. That means there has to be virtually anything out there!

The big downside to this infinite bunch of stuff out there is that it takes quite an effort to explore it all (understatement of the year award here!). I applaud all forms of exploration... from flight to astronomy and projects like SETI. The SETI@home project is an incredible display of ingenuity by folks needing a ton of inexpensive computing power to help them explore in their way... sifting through all the noisy stuff buzzing around out there. The concept of harnassing spare cycles on the proliferation of computing power in the world is a very elegant solution to a problem. The side benefit of providing education about the topic is a bonus, as is seeing you get more computing power than a $150 million dollar commercial computer!
