Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think Extraterrestrial life does exist. Perhaps closer than most people think. I can't say when we will ever meet it... The benefits? Maybe we'll all start thinking smart and stop bickering with each other, and work to better ourselves rather than just accumulating wealth. The dangers? Most people think that Aliens would come to conquer us, or control us or something. But that's how WE act today, just look at all the wars in Iraq etc...

Personally, I don't think we can even guess at an Alien intelligence's motives, because how they think would most certianly be completely different than how we think. We think about conquest.. they may not.

The Seti@home project, to me, seems a bit futile, but thurough. At least we'll KNOW there isn't anything to find by radio. I think there's technologies we haven't discovered yet that will lead to quicker means of communication through vast distances, than radio, that other beings have probably already discovered and are using. If we do find anything, it'll probably something like a locator frequency that tells us what "subspace frequency" to tune into or something like that. Perhaps we need to look for a signal that suggests looking at it differently, or in other places, or in ways we haven't. Just something that suggests more. In that case, I think Seti@home may find THAT signal.
