Personal background
69 years old on 6/21/12. Searching SETI information since May 14th, 1999... guess that almost makes me a charter member. Using 1 computer. A total of 4,505 work units completed as of 6/1/2012. I would like to get two or three more computers up and processing the search. At one time, I had 12 computers up and processing, but things wear out and circumstances change. It has been an interesting search, only question I have: Assuming there is someone out there; How do we find them if they never invented radio communication as we know it?
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1a) Extratresterial Life? I think something exists beyond our earthly confinds. What, is another matter. If nothing else, we will prove we are truly a unique planet.

1b) Benefits/dangers? The two most popular seem to be mutual information exchange and the possibility of finding a civilization who's only wish is to eliminate or subtigate us.

2 Beacon? I think we have been transmitting the fact that we exist into space since the 1920's. That gives something like 83 lightyears distance, no where near what would be required to traverse the length of the Milky Way. If we transmit any beacon, it would be 1,000's of years before it would be heard on the edge of our own Galaxy..

3 SETI@home? I run it because of the very slim possibility I may help find proof of other civilizations existing beyond our world. I think the project is a shot in the dark, and other than the developement of interstellar space travel, it is better than doing nothing. Suggestions...I haven't the talent or the education to advance a suggestion which would be useful. I just pray our success finds a benevolent society, before the benevolent society winks out of existance.
