Personal background
I am the lead technician for a Sleep Laboratory in Walla Walla, Washington, USA.
In addition, I also act in, direct, or do technical work in amateur theater productions
at Walla Walla Community College. I am an avid reader, and have been a Science Fiction
addict since I can remember.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe that life exists on other worlds. I don't think that we will discover it,
but that it will discover us. The benefits, and the dangers, are potentially
boundless. Our sending of probes to the farthest reaches of our solar system and
beyond is putting out a "beacon" for other life forms, but the thought that they
could decipher our recordings may be somewhat fanciful. And perhaps we are already
receiving information from these other-worlders, but in a way we can't decipher.
Hopefully, as our knowledge base increases, and as the SETI@home program becomes
more sophisticated, we may be able to finally "hear" what they are saying.
