Profile: Mark E Wilson

Personal background
My name is Mark Wilson and I am from the United States, specifically, Cranston Rhode Island located in Southern New England, even more specifically, 41° 47.036N / 071° 27.152W (Rhode Island is the smallest state in the United States) I'm a Data Center Analyst for a large bank in this area. I'm divorced with NO children. I enjoy my computer and I have been a amateur radio operator since 1985. (KA1MLA) I have a ton of hobbies, some of which I indulge in frequently, others I often aspire to become involved in... Where and when does it end? :-) I'm a native Rhode Islander born here in 1963. I have a healthy sense of humor and I enjoy having fun. I'm also very serious when I have to be but inherently dislike being around uptight people. Life is to short, let's get done what needs to get done but have fun doing it at the same time! Not always so simple, but doable just the same...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does extraterrestrial life exist ? ABSOLUTELY !!! In my opinion, how incredibly arrogant for anyone to think that in all the vastness of space, we could be the only life? The mere thought of our being "alone" is ridiculous and absurd to me. Space is larger than humanly imaginable. What I can not imagine is the prospect of being alone?

How and when will we discover extraterrestrial life? My guess is that actually happened long ago... :-) Personally I feel we are still some many years away from being told the truth, but I also think we better get ourselves prepared for when that time comes... As far as benefits/dangers, I truly believe we could only benefit from such a astronomical discovery,(providing we are ready.) It would certainly force all of humanity to the next level of our evolution. We need a serious boost to our evolution, we are way overdue. We can't even get along with ourselves. We need to correct this BEFORE we can successfully interact with extraterrestrial life. It's my feeling that any of the other countless civilizations would have to be friendly to be out cruising the cosmos. It takes a lot of resources to get to that point in anyones evolution, war and fighting are inherently counter productive to resource management. The beacons been done already. I run SETI because it's WAY to big not to. We ALL need to be part of this one!
