My name is Chris, 53 years old & I live in the UK. I am a computer technician.
Interests are, in no particular order, rock music - fave bands at the moment are Dream Theater & Porcupine Tree, reading, watching The Simpsons. No great interest in ET (the movie or the real thing !!), but I do think the SETI@HOME project is an interesting one, so contributing my idle CPU time is a good way of participating. |

I think it's highly unlikely that we are alone in the universe. There MUST be life somewhere out there; whether or not it is as intelligent as we are is a different matter; intelligence is a relative concept anyway. The human race is at a point in it's development where there is enough arrogance to make many believe that we may be interesting to aliens. The number of people in the USA who claim to have been abducted by aliens is staggering ! Why do so many think that this planet is a galactic interchange ? Are we that important ? I suspect
not. It is possible that a few, just a few, UFO sightings are real but they have probably become buried in the mass of hoaxes and misinterpretation.
I personally doubt very much that the SETI project will detect life outside of this planet, that is at least as intelligent as us, but it is the best shot so far at trying, and I am more than happy for my computers to make a small contribution. The people of this planet will have to evolve - emotionally and scientifically - much much more before we can detect other civilised races.
That's if we don't destroy ourselves first ...................... |
