Personal background
I am 31 years old and live in northern Germany, close to the scandinavian border.
I have danish and german family, finished danish/german school (part of danish minority). I do speak fluent danish, german and english and can read/understand norwegian, swedish (more or less), french and have a kind of affinity to italian/spanish caused by the other languages.
I'm an absolute IT-Pro-Nerd cause i made my hobby to my work. Learned Systemintegration and administration.
My hobbies are (of course) computing, roleplaying, music, my mates, sit ins (preffered at the beach within the fjord), crafting wood and metall, painting miniature figures, reading, help peoples with pc-probs, teasing my cat and last but not least enjoying time with my girl.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that extraterrestial life exists. It would be a kind of inpertinent to believe that we are the only Ones. BTW. when you play a bit with the digits it doesnt sound very reasonable that only earth should have had the luck to get the enviromental set and setting.
I hope any alien form will survive the (1.) contact with humans. dangers are obvious: death, annihilation and a lot of spank for the lil green-gray man ;) Benefits: living in peaceful co-existence, taking advantage of the others knowledge, prospering society blablabla *LaughsOutLoud* XD Sounds nice but not realistic.
Yeah, humans should absolutely send beacons, it could help a bit when it comes along with music and a warning. "Humans.... you love them, you hate them, you love to hate them" ;)
I think the message should be something like a pictogramm from man and woman (like the voyager has), a pretty complete set of any music-style plus player and a set of numbers displaying a shematic of our sol-system. number 1 is Sol counting up when passing the different planets making a bold "4" for earth and a spectrogramm from the sun pointing to number "1".
Not to much information, music and a picture tells much more *HopeTheAliensWouldThinkSoToo* we dont want scare them, we want their technology XD.
I hope to be part of a community that moves something. best would be to find aliensignals (of course) because id love to make fun of the pessimists. maybe seti is able to solve any other related problem *CauseWeAreTheBiggestMassiveProssecingClusterInTheWorld-RntWe?*.
A bit off topic but not lesser nice would be a problem of immanent urgency that for a short period requires MASSIVE COMPUTERPOWER !!! Shouldnt be THAT hard to reconfigure SETI for that task.
But all-in-all im running SETI@home because i hate to waste computer-ressources while waiting for some tasks to be performed, so why not use the power for a thing i believe in.... SETI.
