Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that SETI is one of the most important scientific organizations in the world. SETI, being funded by private resources, needs the support of everyone who believes in its mission. I am a proud member of SETI and will continue to be so throughout the years.

SETI@home is an ingenious way of allowing SETI supporters to assist SETI by helping crunch mounds of accumulated data.

I am using my Athlon XP 2000 PC to process most of my work units. I am using the Command-Line version of the software to speed up the processing. The machine gets a work unit done about every 4 hours.

I have also dedicated my older Pentium II 233 Mhz computer to this task full-time. I think taking your old machine, hooking it up to the net, and letting it crunch SETI data full-time is something all of you computer folks may want to consider doing. It's a lot of fun having a dedicated scientific computer working at home!
