Personal background
My name is Terry, and I'm from Greenville, Texas. I'm 22 years old, and have attended two colleges, majoring in Computer Network Technology. I'm an A certified technician, as well as a Cisco Certified Networking Associate, and a GNU Certified Linux System Administrator. Currently I work as a computer system & network technician, where I design, impliment, and maintain computer systems & networks for local businesses. Computers are not only my job but also my hobby, as I have a significant network at home consisting right now of 12 computers, with 6 more on the way.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe rather strongly, almost as fact, that extraterrestrial life exists. I think there is more then enough proof already, and that humans have already "discovered" it, just not publicly or acceptingly. Electricity was around long before Ben Franklin's kite flight, but only then was it explained, and largely accepted, and "discovered." As far as the benefits and dangers, I see this as relations with any other body of entities, provided they are not overly hostile, I'm sure if we play our cards right we can form some kind of alliance, and hope something stupid doesn't happen and we end up fighting them, which I think that would be a very big mistake.
I believe we should gather up stuff from all around the globe, and put it into some kind of capsule. Something that gives a general idea of the broad range of humans, what life is like, what our ambitions are, a breif history, etc. One of our DVD's could hold more then enough information to explain that all, without going into any great detail.
I run set@home, because to be totally honest, I have a fleet of computers just sitting around idle most of the time, and given the fact that I believe strongly in this kind of thing, I'm more then happy to dedicate some idle CPU cycles to the cause. Also some friends of mine have been doing this, and told me about it, so I was happy to jump on this bandwagon.
