Personal background
Hello, I live in a small town called Nowra, in Australia, where I also work for the local Naval base, HMAS Albatross, as a Calibration Technician. I became introduced to the idea of extraterrestrial life by the many Sci-Fi movies that i enjoyed as a child, my favourite of which was, and still is, 'The Last Starfighter' where a teenager gets recruited by a galactic federation due to his skill at a video game. The next major thing that actually made me realise that we are not alone were a few unexplained sightings of 'satelites' that could change direction, performing 90 degree turns without losing speed. Another thing that convinced me was Richard Hoaglans address to the (i think) UN about the face on Mars. Later I was forced to wonder again as more and more UFO sightins were recorded, and reenacted in TV shows about the subject of ET life, posing the question 'is there life beyond Earth?' and alot of the time ending the show with a 'You decide' statement. A quote from the movie 'Contact' made alot of sense to me as well, Jodie Fosters character says at the end of the movie something along the lines of If we are the only beings in the Universe, then thats an awful waste of space.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Q1. Yes i do think that extraterrestrial life exists. Humans will be exposed to the 'discovery' by projects such as SETI or actual contact being made. Possible benifits of such a discovery would be possibility of new technology, and if you believe some reports of the 'roswell' incident this has already happened. Certain technologies such as the transistor 'appeared' seemingly out of the blue in the years following this. Possible dangers would be the general hysteria thet could occur, some people think these ETs are just waiting for us to discover them, then destroy us. Also, some religions would have to re-think their entire dogma and root beliefs.

Q2. If ETs are intelligent enough to send us a signal, then they sould also be able to decode our transmissions already being sent on transmitters around the world right now (TV, radio).

Q3.If this project is the means that the rest of the world finds out about ETs then i would like to be a part of it, if only by sorting through the useless part of the data packets, and letting someone else find a signal
