Personal background
Hi ,
I am 68 years old and retired . My hobby is computers . my goal is to produce the highest performance computer possible for $ 1000 or less . So far I have found what I think is the sweet spot .We are using HP Z-800s with dual 6 core Xenon processors running natively at 3.33 GHZ 96 GB server ram . GPUs are by Nvidia , We use either Quadro 6000 and Tesla C-2070 or dual Quadro FX5800s the 5800 cavds will be SLP when I install the link bar .There are 2 running 500 GB SSDs the third is my internet comm computer it has dual 500 GB SSDs and a single 1 TB 2.5" HGST Drive for bulk storage . We have been running SETI @ Home for 20 days and have run through 643,690 and change iterations . I have found an interesting way to heat my basement in cold weather ( COMPUTERS ) . When it gets colder I just turn on another computer .

Before I retired I was a stationary engineer running high pressure boilers I would have liked to have gone nuclear but calaulus did me in I had the chemistry and physics and about 120 other college credits . Unfortunately I took courses I liked mostly the sciences and was not diversified enough for the degree paper . But made a good living as it was . I enjoyed the work and the people I worked with . It does not get better than that .

I enjoy traveling in the Western USA . I reside in Wisconsin and have all my life . I Have a full size Ford Bronco we use for travel and camping in . It is a fine vehicle it stays nice because it does not get used in the snow and salt .

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
SETI that we run is for benchmarks to see how capable the computers are plus I like the screen saver .

It would be neat to find ET

I would like enough work on hand for about 2 days of run time for each computer from SETI
