Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Along with other searchers, I run SETI constantly, unless there are unwarranted power outages. I run SETI to assists scientists in the evaluation and possibly discovery of a signal that qualifies as a contact. We have seen the movies depicting contacts from ETs, and because of the size of the universe, I undoubtedly believe other life exists. The search is ironic in that we, on a whole, have the best intentions, but, ironically consume ourselves with the insignificant issues we all face. Humanity is counterproductive and we must embrace thoughts similar to what Spock stated in the Wrath of Khan, ..."the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few...or the one". However, we try, and try hard to circumvent the undesirable aspects of dealing with differences on most levels of cohabitation on Earth. We all must be cautious... "be careful what we ask for". Our history of dealing with adversity due to cultural differences is plagued with indecisiveness and the skewed process of perception and interpretation of those very differences. I believe that God would not create such a vast expanse of nothingness, or to identify and allow us to presumptuous declare, "we are the only life that matters". Having study scientific analysis and spiritual aspects of life, I can only hope that we do find proof of extraterrestrial life in the form of transmissions and that those transmissions contribute to an applicable coexistence with others on Earth and beyond. I dedicate myself to the completion of the build of a bridge between the scientific world and the spirituality world with a coexistence that embraces the original intentions of humanity which parallels Spock's statement, "..the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few...or the one" as he unselfishly gave his life for all enterprise crew members. So, let's charge on and find extraterrestrial life. We must not give up or limit ourselves in finding this extraterrestrial life in a way that shows, that humanity, can and will embrace differences scientifically, and spiritually where all hidden agendas are struck form the very nature of our needed sperpective and deciphering of the very differences we will undoubtedly find. As Rodney King stated several decades ago, “can’t we all just get along?” I digress…
